Epic Reading Project book #11

This is a rec from my good friend Tif. Over the course of this project, Tif and I have discovered that we have exactly opposite tastes in literature, except for a few truly brilliant exceptions.

This book was not one of those exceptions.

What the fuck is this book? I mean… what the fuck even is this book? I did not finish it. I could not bring myself to finish it. I got about a quarter of the way through and realized that I had no idea what was happening, why it was happening, how the previous scenes had led to this point, or what had happened with them either.

If you look on Wikipedia, it mentions that, “[Lem] writes that the novel puts forth the “totalization of the notion of intentionality”.” Can you tell me what the fuck that means? Because I can’t. What does that mean? What does this novel mean?

Look, I don’t mind a book that invites me to think. What I mind is being forced to do mental acrobatics of a complexity on par with those of Cirque du Soleil contortionists just to make sense of the first page. If you want me to think about your arguments, you should at least do me the courtesy of making your arguments intelligible.

Gonna rate this a Your Mileage May Vary, because (like with THE BIG TIME), my total lack of comprehension is no reason to anti-rec a book. Tif likes it. Who knows why.
